Carey is a former fashion model. She is 5'10" tall, and was sought-after by the high-end American designers such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and others. In 1979 the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists named her father Scientist of the Year. Carey went to all over the world due to her father's work. Following her graduation from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began to model on the side. The idea caught the attention of an agent from Ford Model Agency New York. Her move to France in the year 1980, and lived for a short time in Paris as well as Bordeaux prior to deciding to move back to New York to continue with her education at college and build a modeling career. She soon began being featured on the cover of Vogue, Glamour, etc. Between her modelling assignments she also studied literature full time during her time at New York University. As she studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse, New York, her enthusiasm for acting increased. Her acting debut came with a small role in 'Club Paradise which aired in 1986 alongside Robin Williams. She enjoys rock climbing as well as skiing and windsurfing.
